Shelter Advocate
Job Summary:
The Shelter Advocate is responsible for providing trauma-informed direct services to victims of domestic abuse and their children including assistance with daily living needs, support, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, parenting support, information, and referrals. This position is also responsible for cleaning and preparing rooms for new residents, ensuring common areas remain clean, ensuring a welcoming and safe living environment for residents, and answering the 24-hour crisis line to provide emergency support to victims.
Experience & Skills:
Experience in or ability to provide support services to adults, and youth utilizing residential services; knowledge of and sensitivity to issues related to domestic abuse, sexual assault, and harassment; an understanding of trauma and its effects on individuals and families, knowledge of coping skills and strategies; and be a creative problem solver. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills; and be able to work with high conflict and emotional situations. Physical ability to clean along with lift and move furniture as needed.
Hours:
Part-time position/hourly/non-exempt; work shifts may include daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday hours to ensure adequate coverage of the shelter program.
Salary:
Starting at $17.00/hour.
